Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in a meeting with Libyan Foreign Minister Ashour bin Khayal underlined the importance of strengthening relations between the two countries.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - "There are proper political and economic potentials for the reinvigoration and deepening of the relations and the two countries' political and parliamentary officials should put them into effect," Larijani said during the meeting on the sidelines of the 16th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Tehran on Friday.

Bin Khayal, for his part, expressed pleasure in the hosting of the NAM summit by Iran as "an important regional country", and stressed the expansion of political, economic and cultural relations between the two nations.

In relevant remarks earlier this week, Libyan Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saad al-Shalmani also stressed Iran's important role in the region and the world, and said Tripoli is eagerly striving to improve relations with Tehran.

"Iran is a great and important Islamic country and Libya tries to establish normal and serious relations with Iran like other Arab and Muslim states," Shalmani said in an interview with the Iran-based Arabic al-Alam news channel on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran on Tuesday.

"We don't have any problem with Iran and we hope that the (bilateral) ties will develop," he added.
